Doctors genetically engineered his T cells to recognize PRAME, a protein expressed by many cancers. After a single infusion, his cancer disappeared. He remains in complete remission.

His remarkable case was recently published in The New England Journal of Medicine and covered by TIME.

Why this story is personal to us: Smilo Foundation co-founder Mike Smilo received this same PRAME-targeted engineered T-cell therapy after being diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma. His experience helped inspire the creation of the Smilo Foundation.
